This week’s #FriFotos theme is ART. So I pulled out this shot taken in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach last December. A local art collective called FriendsWithYou pulled together this installation, called Rainbow City, that ran during the festival. Their blog described the 40 pieces of air-filled sculpture as such:
By dwarfing the audience, the totemic pieces trigger a sense of reverence, similar to the visual of a monolithic monument. During interaction, the inflated sculptures “embrace” visitors, while repetitive sound elements further enhance the sensory experience. The overall installation creates a surreal landscape of psychedelic scenery intended to simultaneously provoke a religious and childlike awareness.
Huh. That’s all a little complicated for me. I enjoyed other people enjoying themselves, and marveled at the creativity behind it all.
