This blog is dedicated to a colleague of mine at the Star who simply LOVES lists.
I spotted an item on the forbes.com website the other day listing the worlds most beautiful cities. Not the cities best for doing business or best quality of life but, simply, most beautiful. A lot more open to interpretation and less scientific, but probably just as valid as anything more business-oriented.
Forbes pulled together architectural and city planning types (theyre always eager for publicity) and came up with the following list. I dont think it was in order but I could be wrong.

A gathering at the family tomb for Shimi
During the month of April, each year, a Sunday gathering takes place at the family tomb (Ohaka). The occasion, known as Shimi, resembles a family reunion and picnic combined. Throughout the month, every Sunday, the roads may appear to have more traffic and many vehicles will be seen parked alongside the roads close to family tombs.
Vegetation surrounding the Ohaka is trimmed and the grounds are cleaned up by men, usually the week prior.

MONTREAL – Great shopping, sure. Lovely, fashionable folks to admire as you sip your caffe latte near Place D’Armes, sure. And great, old-time architecture.
This is a wonderful town, but what got me most excited yesterday was a pair of nice hot steamies.
